Rosario Ramos noticed last year that her toddler, Evelyn, wasn’t talking a lot. A dark-haired girl with big brown eyes, Evelyn also didn’t like to share with her two older sisters. And Ramos had additional reason to be concerned: Evelyn wasn’t her only child who was reluctant to speak. Ramos’s middle daughter, Tomasa, who was in kindergarten, was working with a speech therapist. And her oldest daughter, Guadalupe, didn’t really start talking until she was six.
